Barcelona dominates AP Global Football 10 after Madrid win - Yahoo Sports

LONDON (AP) -- Barcelona was voted team of the week in the Associated Press Global Football 10 on Tuesday after beating Real Madrid 4-0 away at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Spanish League. Luis Suarez scored twice in the commanding win, while Andres Iniesta and Neymar added the others. ''What was expected to be a thrilling clash between the bitterest of rivals, became a game that showcased Barcelona's absolute supremacy over Real,'' Umaid Wasim of Dawn Newspaper in Pakistan said. ''Utterly dominant, the performance showed that their bid to win a treble again this year would take some stopping.'' Liverpool is runner-up in the team vote after a surprise 4-1 win away against Manchester City in the Premier League. ''On another week Liverpool would have done enough to claim the prize, and their 4-1 victory at Manchester City was perhaps the perfect example of what Jurgen Klopp has brought to the side,'' Julian Bennetts of Hayters news agency in England said. Bayern Munich is third after moving eight points clear at the summit of the German Bundesliga by beating Schalke 3-1. Leicester is fourth after replacing City at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Newcastle. Inter Milan takes fifth for thrashing Frosinone 4-0 in the Italian Serie A. Juventus , Manchester United , Paris Saint-Germain, Wolfsburg and Napoli round out the top 10 teams of the week. Barcelona also dominated the player vote. Suarez takes first place for his double strike, while the other two scorers, Iniesta and Neymar, are second and third. Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is fourth after equaling Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League matches as his side beat Newcastle to go top of the English standings. ''Jamie Vardy has shown Luis Suarez-type qualities during his amazing run of scoring in 10 straight Premier League games,'' Mike McGrath of The Sun in England said. Philippe Coutinho , who scored one and assisted another in Liverpool's win over City, is fifth.

Were pleased to see a reduction in overall incidents including deliberate bonfires and want to thank the public for helping keep bonfire night safe this year. As we move towards the weekend we want to remind people to be safe and the best way to do that is to attend an organised display. If people must buy fireworks for use at home we would urge them to only buy ones which comply with British Standard BS7114 and to please follow the Firework Code. This is not only for their safety but for that of their family and friends as well. The Brigade is also issuing a reminder that only adults should set off fireworks and parents should make their children aware of the dangers of playing with them. The Firework Code Keep fireworks in a closed box Follow the instructions on each firework Light all fireworks at arms length Stand well back Never go back to a lit firework Never put fireworks in your pocket Never throw fireworks Do not drink alcohol if setting off fireworks. Some Guidance On Real-world Smoke Detectors In Leicester Plans

Andre Ayew backs Swansea to get back into shape - Yahoo Sports

View photo The Swans midfielder believes his beleaguered manager will revive their Premier League campaign after series of poor results Swansea City midfielder Andre Ayew believes his side will get back into shape following an ongoing poor run in the English Premier League. Swansea's last win came at the Villa Park in September when Ayew's late strike gave them a 2-1 victory but the former Olympique Marseille star insists things will change very soon. Everything is going to get back into shape and we just need some time. You need that in football when things are difficult, Ayew told the club's website. We believe we have great players, a great squad, a great manager and everything will be okay. We just need to keep working hard and don't give up, he said. Swansea are billed to face Liverpool , Leicester, Manchester City and West Ham next in the league but Ayew believes they will stay focused in all games. When you're in a club like Swansea that wants to grow and you don't get the results everybody gets the pressure. That's normal, but we just want to stay focused on the field and not look at what's happening outside. We just concentrate on the pitch and listen to what the coach has to tell us about the tactics and what he wants to do. That's what's important, he added. Swansea are currently lying 14th on the log with 14 points, three points away from safety.

New fire appliances for Essex Seven new custom-built fire appliances will begin their working lives in Essex shortly, thanks to a joint money-saving purchasing arrangement with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS). The new appliances are part of a 10 million contract with Angloco to provide a total of 42 new fire appliances over the next four years to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. The first seven appliances will be new Heavy Rescue Pumps which have been designed on a bespoke basis to meet the needs of Essex. They combine the proven reliability of a Scania chassis with innovative new design features created by appliance builders Angloco. They incorporate a raft of specialist rescue equipment along with pumps and hoses which mean they can be deployed at a wide variety of incidents from house fires to complex rescues including road traffic collisions. The design of these appliances has been based on a consultation with six fire services in the Eastern Region. Each fire service contributed their best specification elements which has resulted in a modern fire appliance using advanced technology and innovation to make firefighting more effective and safer for Essexs crews. Acting Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley said: These appliances have been designed to meet the demands of a modern fire and rescue service. Their flexibility reflects the wide range of work our crews carry out and they provide an excellent response capability which can deal with a huge range of incidents and emergencies. This is the latest investment we have made in frontline equipment. We are working to create a Service fit for the future and providing an excellent response by our highly trained crews in the right vehicles with the right equipment is at the core of that.

A Helping Hand With Recognising Central Criteria Of Smoke Detectors In London

The initiative was devised by the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) and was launched with widespread support from MPs, Councillors and Chief Fire Officers. They have signed an open letter to government asking for a review of provisions for fire sprinklers in building standards as well as a more proactive approach to the use of sprinkler and fire suppression systems. The sprinkler issue is already a high priority for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Service has worked extensively with housing provider Nottingham City Homes to identify which of their properties are occupied by people who are most at risk of fire. As a result Nottingham City Homes is installing sprinklers into some of its high rise blocks and new build bungalows and flats. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has also invested in a number of portable misting systems which will be allocated to some of the countys most vulnerable residents. Officers from the Services Fire Protection team are using Fire Sprinkler Week to raise awareness and promote the use of sprinklers in commercial premises. Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann said: For some time now nearly all fire and rescue services across the country have been promoting the use of sprinklers in both domestic and commercial properties. Many, like us, have been working alongside partners such as housing providers to ensure sprinklers are either retro-installed as necessary or are included in the plans for new-build properties. Although the issue has been on the national agenda for a while, it is important that initiatives like this are used to further promote awareness and understanding, as well as winning support from the government. We are therefore pleased to support Fire Sprinkler Week and will do all we can as a Service to continue to keep this issue at the forefront of peoples hearts and minds.

Soccer-Two-goal Kane on target again as Spurs thrash West Ham - Yahoo News

View gallery A worker cleans paint off a gravestone at the Harefield churchyard in Hillingdon, Britain November 23, LONDON (Reuters) - Graves of Australian soldiers killed in World War One have been daubed with graffiti for the second time in seven months in London. Blue paint sprayed on headstones at a churchyard in Hillingdon, west London was discovered on Sunday morning. It follows a similar attack at the same Harefield Church graveyard in April ahead of celebrations to commemorate 100 years since Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC)forces landed in Gallipoli, Turkey in their first major military action of World War One. "We are extremely disappointed by this deliberate act of vandalism and deplore the actions of those responsible," said Mike Bullen, assistant director general for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) which manages the graves. There are no clear words or symbols which can be made out in the graffiti to indicate any motive. Around 10,000 ANZAC forces died in the Gallipoli campaign against Ottoman Empire forces in 1915 and April 25 is used around the world as a day to remember all those Australians and New Zealanders who died in conflict. A worker cleans paint off a gravestone at the Harefield churchyard in Hillingdon, Britain November 2 The graveyard is a major British site for the annual remembrance celebrations. Police said they were investigating the incident. The CWGC said such attacks on its graves were rare and plans to restore them to their original condition. Basic Ideas For Handy Solutions For Fire Doors In Birmingham

The initiative forms part of the Brigades close links with the UK Fire Service and Humanitarian Charity, Operation Florian which has resulted in several Cleveland firefighters passing on their skills and experience to counterparts in less deprived countries. Just two months ago a six-strong team representing Cleveland Fire Brigade visited Harare in Zimbabwe where they spent three weeks training local firefighters in a range of fire and rescue exercises including measures to prevent injuries and save lives. Ian Hayton, Chief Fire Officer with Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: The four appliances are around 20 years old and have come to the end of their useful working lives for Cleveland Fire Brigade. They have very little monetary value and it therefore makes sense to donate them to Operation Florian which is an extremely worthwhile charity that does great work around the world to help others less fortunate than ourselves. A number of our firefighters have just returned from Harare in Zimbabwe where they passed on their skills and expertise to local firefighters as part of Operation Florian. Whilst the firefighters there are quite highly skilled, they just dont have the equipment that we have and often attend incidents in vans and trucks. Hopefully, we can help to change this with the donation of our surplus appliances. Councillor Jan Brunton, Chair of Cleveland Fire Authority, commented: Having listened to the Cleveland firefighters who have visited Zimbabwe recently, it brings it home to me just how far advanced we are in this country in terms of our fire and rescue services. Through Operation Florian there is some tremendous work to support others less privileged than ourselves and I think it is very fitting for Cleveland Fire Brigade to support this charity. Mike Doherty, Chair of Operation Florian, said: The four appliances donated by Cleveland Fire Brigade is a significant contribution to the charity and there is no doubt that this will help to save many lives in the years to come. Cleveland Fire Brigade has been incredibly supportive of the work that we do.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel and a dry powder extingusher to quickly tackle the fire. Crews had extingiushed the fire by18:12hrs. Crews reported that the fire had started in the cooker. Incidents like these show the importance of taking extra care when cooking. More fires start in the kitchen than any other room in the house and cooking accounts for more than a third of all house fires. To make sure you stay as safe as possible in the kitchen follow our simple safety tips: Keepyour oven, hob and grill clean and in good working order. A build up of fat and grease can ignite a fire Never leavecooking unattended If you have to leave the kitchen to answer the door or send a text, turn off the cooker Check toasters are clean and placed away from curtains and kitchen rolls Take care when cooking with hot oil, it sets alight easily. If the oil starts to smoke, its too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.

No-nonsense Solutions In Fitting A Fire Door In Birmingham Across The Uk

Its important to remember that a candle is not just a decorative feature. Poorly positioned or unattended candles could leave a trail of devastation. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are asking people to take extra care with candles this winter. To prevent candle fires from starting in your home, you should make sure your candles are kept away from flammable materials like curtains. Candles should be positioned well away from pets and children who could accidentally knock them over. Always ensure candles are put out when you leave the room, even for a moment. Blackouts are more prevalent during the winter months. Always opt for torches instead of candles and keep one in a location that is easily accessible in the dark. Head of Risk Reduction, James Bywater said: We would urge anyone using candles to ensure that they are in appropriate holders and are not placed on top of TVs or close to any combustible materials, such as curtains or bedding. We would also advise that candles are never left unattended and are extinguished before leaving the room or going to bed.

Last chance to have a say! Monday 27 January 2014 Residents and organisations in Nottinghamshire have just under a week left to give their views on how Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service proposes to keep people safe and respond to incidents during the next five years. The Service is currently consulting with the public on its Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP), which outlines how it proposes to keep people safe from fire and other incidents in the face of decreasing budgets. This includes providing an appropriate number of fire engines in the right places, giving out fire safety advice and inspecting businesses to make sure they are adhering to fire regulations. The 12-week consultation comes to an end on Sunday 2 February, and the Service is keen to encourage anyone who hasnt already taken part to do so. Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann said: Over the last three months our officers and staff have been out and about across the county, talking to people in town centres and market places, and engaging with members of our communities at some special forums organised in conjunction with an independent consultation company. Theyve been asking people for their opinions on issues such as whether we should collaborate more with neighbouring fire and rescue services, and how the Service could reduce its impact on the environment. People have been very interested in what we have had to say and many have taken away our consultation document to read and digest at home, before giving us their views and opinions online or via the form at the back of the document. This is your chance to help shape what Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service does in the future to help keep those who live, work and travel through our county safe, and I would urge everyone to make sure their views are included. Fire Authority Chair Councillor Darrell Pulk added: "This plan not only meets our legal obligation to produce an IRMP but also gives us the opportunity to focus our services on the needs of Nottinghamshire people. It will help us direct our fire and rescue activities for the next five years, during which time we expect to see our budget reducing further. We want to hear from as many people as possible, which is why we have used a variety of different methods for obtaining peoples opinions." Officers will be at Nottinghams Broadmarsh shopping centre on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 January talking to people about the Services plans and encouraging them to take part in the consultation process. Details can also be accessed at www.notts-fire.gov.uk .
